  over the history of its existence, the bible has had its critics and detracters.

  going into a bookstore, i was able to find a flood of information that is critical of the bible.

  however, the same was not true of the koran.

  Think back to the witchhunts and heretic burnings of medieval europe. It took a lot of courage back then to defy the religious authorities.
  Then the invention of the printing press led to the Protestant Reformation and the world changed.

  Today's Islam is as stuck in a medieval mindset as when it was founded. There have been subtle critics of Islam - Sufis - who got themselves in trouble with the religious leaders and some of them were put to death. Criticism of the word of the prophet is not tolerated - a "fatwa" is issued calling the for death of the offender, just as is was for Salman Rushdie.

  i found some ladies purse at the local shopping mall parking lot tonight, it had her entire life in it, her social security card, her cell phone, her cash, her credit cards, even her daughters social security card.. from looking through the contents, me and saffron were able to find out many things about her:.

  1)she had recently moved from way out in the country to columbia maryland... 2)she was probably divorced from a man of middle eastern origens.

  to those you replied to my earlier post -thank you for your kind support.

  i am looking over some of the other posts that people leave on various topics, and it seems like a bad dream all over again.

  i can not believe some of the anger, harshness and hatred that lies in the replies that some of the active witnesses make to people's posted messages.

  Hi TRUTH,

  Here's what I think is going on -

  If you have a discussion with someone about something like baking bread or adjusting a car's ignition timing, two people can disagree and debate without becoming (too) emotional because the ideas can be tested against REALITY.

  Metaphysical propositions can't be tested against REALITY.

  To make matters worse, some metaphysical propositions deny observable objective reality. People stuck in these belief systems have no concrete proof for their beliefs, which are based soley upon emotion, not reason, and so they respond emotionally to anyone who doesn't accept their tripe.

  For the record, 20+ years in the WTS taught me to be an atheist. Does it show?

  i really miss christmas but don't have enough nerve to celebrate it.

  Hi everybody,

  My experience is a little different.

  I was raised a JW from about age 7 and have very few memories of Xmases before that. My family broke up when my bitter and angry Mom decided to walk with Jah (HA!), and she kept me away from ALL my relatives. To make up for that I had no friends. Mom thought they were "bad" for me, and I learned much later that other kids' parents thought I was "bad" for their kids. Such joy!

  I spent about 20 years in the Borg, and when I got out I found that I had no "emotional context" for the holidays. To me Xmas and Thanksgiving have the same "emotional context" as phoney Kwanza or Muslim Ramadan.

  I tried going through the motions with new worldly friends, but it felt hollow.

  After the big holiday meals the hollow feeling was gone, so I dig the holiday meals.

  I think I'm at least of average generousity - but I give gifts spontaneously, when the mood strikes me, instead of waiting for some institutionalized "give gifts" signal. This seems to surprise and maybe confuse people, but they don't complain.
